WHAT IS IPL AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and SHR (Super Hair Removal) are proven standards in hair removal technology. IPL/SHR work by using light which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair and is converted to heat to effectively destroy the hair follicle. It is similar to laser hair removal and is effective at permanent hair reduction. Our machine uses cooling technology which cools the surrounding skin before we pulse the head piece onto the treatment area, meaning increased client comfort and results.
IPL VS LASER?
IPL uses the exact same energy and wavelength as laser but is delivered to the skin slower meaning that it hurts a lot less. Laser delivers a sharp burst of energy in a short amount of time hence why it can feel more uncomfortable than IPL. Laser delivers light at 1 nanosecond whereas IPL delivers light at 40 nanoseconds.
IPL delivers scattered light so is much quicker at covering an area than laser which shoots straight down over a specific spot. This also means that IPL is more accurate because the scattering light means that a a lot of hair is covered twice by being overlapped.
IPL FOR RED HAIR?
We offer E-light which is hair reduction for red hair. E-Light combines Bi-polar Radio Frequency (RF) and IPL to help deliver bulk heating to the bulb of red hair. It does this by using RF energy, where energy is transmitted and oscillates to and from a positive and a negative pole below the epidermis, whilst simultaneously delivering a flash of IPL. The hair must have some pigment for this treatment to work effectively, E-Light cannot be achieved on grey or white hairs. Clients will require more treatments than the standard IPL treatments.
WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
A minimum of 6-10 treatments is required. The number of sessions will depend on various parameters, including the area of the body being treated, skin colour, hair colour, coarseness of hair, background, season and more.
Coarse dark hair on light skin is easiest and quickest to treat.
Typically the shedding of the treated hairs takes about one to three weeks to fall out. These hairs should be allowed to fall out on their own and shaving can be continued.

DOES IT HURT?
IPL will be somewhat uncomfortable to those with a lower pain threshold but no numbing cream is required. We always make sure our clients are comfortable and we can adjust the settings as we go.
The sensation of IPL is heat and has been likened to little rubber bands being snapped on the skin’s surface. If there is no pain whatsoever- this means the setting mostly likely needs to be adjusted or there is nothing to treat.
We always check in on our clients to gauge their pain level on a scale of 1-10. We want the number to be under a 5 but higher than a 1 to ensure results.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET IPL?
You can get IPL treatments all year round but sun needs to be avoided on the treated areas so we recommend the Autumn and Winter months as the best time to commence your IPL treatments.
STAFF TRAINING?
Our therapists are trained extensively in IPL and continue to update our knowledge through the online training portal. We have been offering IPL services within Dolce Vita Beaute for over 10 years.
IPL CONSULTATION:
We conduct a thorough consultation and a test patch prior to treatments to assess whether you are a good candidate for the procedure. The consultation costs $30.00 and is redeemable when you commence your treatment. Pricing is per treatment and every treatment can be purchased in a package of 6 where you only pay for 5 or a package of 10 where you only pay for 8.
